Audacious Arrows
I am so excited to share my latest project with you all! Audacious Arrows is a Bible reading podcast for kids.
If you’ve read any of my content here at Acorns to Oaks then you probably have caught on to the fact that I am passionate about God’s word and especially that my children know, love, and devour their Bibles.
Bridging the reading gap
The problem that I, and countless other parents, face is that my kids are able to understand the Bible long before they are at the reading level of the Bible! Depending on the part of the Bible and which translation you are using the reading level of God’s word ranges from about a 3rd grade reading level up to a 12th grade reading level! Well, what about my Kindergartener!?!
Yes, I read the Bible to my children. And we do family devotions together. But, I also want my children to develop a habit of spending their own time alone with God and reading the Bible for themselves. This podcast aims to bridge that gap.
This podcast is for anyone but I have in mind specifically kids who aren’t quite reading the Bible fluently for themselves. It can be a tool for private devotions or something your family enjoys in the car!
What does Audacious Arrows mean?
The word arrows comes from Psalm 127 where children are compared to arrows in the hand of a warrior. My sweet little girls sure don’t make me think of warfare, but when I consider the culture and the world they are up against I certainly want them to be arrows. Sharp. Focused. Contending against a dark and depraved world that denies God and seeks to destroy them right down to the very DNA God gave them.
My husband came up with the word Audacious which means recklessly bold. God is a firm foundation and following Him in obedience is the safest thing we can do! But, to the world it often appears reckless.
I am starting the podcast in the book of Daniel. When Daniel chose to pray in defiance of the king’s degree he was audacious – he appeared to recklessly risk his life to those lions and he served as an arrow piercing all the way through the Babylonian empire to our culture today proclaiming God’s might. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did not know that God would rescue them from the furnace, they only knew that He was able. Their audacious stance has shot into every Sunday school room for generations proclaiming that God is mighty to save. I want my children and your children to have that kind of bold faith.
What will be in the episodes?
The heart of each episode is a plain reading of the Bible. I use the English Standard Version and read a bite-sized chunk. Surrounding that reading is a little bit of application, context, observations, and meaning – just enough to help kids understand. Depending on how long the day’s passage is the episodes will average under 15 minutes.
My goal is record a new episode 5 days a week so that your child can use the Audacious Arrows podcast consistently.
